State of Mind Magazine Reviews These Things

Check out the latest edition of State of Mind magazine for a review of These Things. Ryan Dembinksy writes:

On These Things, the band’s sophomore LP, Jounce’s compositions exhibit a switch flipping duality of opposing forces. Most of the tracks begin with guitar driven indie rock structures – think Mother Love Bone, Dinosaur Jr., Pavement and Matthew Sweet – often based around three- or four-chord progressions with a major key, catchy backbone, but generally exploiting more colorful chord structures to refrain from been there, done that territory, instead opting for fresher, more distinctive sounds. Inevitably, the ephemeral indie band gets washed away about three minutes into most songs, where the band trades in tight jeans and Chuck Taylors for patch-work and dreadies as they improvise far away into heavily effected psychedelic soundscapes.
